A Kind of Grace- Summary

Summary

458 - Jackie Joyner is 10 years old and full of energy. Dancing and cheerleading is fun, but she wanted more of a challenge. When she comes across a bulletin board with a track sign-up sheet, she prints her name on the first line.
460 - Jackie Joyner is pretty much the only girl on the track team who actually wants to be there running. Her sisters were there with her, but they didn't want to be. Days passed by and fewer girls show up for practice. That made Percy give up the idea of forming a team.
461 - Jackie is in a practice race with some other girls from a different team who were trained for the 440-yard dash. When she comes in last place she becomes discouraged.
463 - Jackie had been going to track practice for a while every day. Even though she wasn't fast enough to pass the others, her coach -Mr. Ward- still believed that she could win. Every time she talked to her new friends or ate junk food, she'd get punished by having to run counter-clockwise three times around the track.
464 - Jackie convinced her sisters to help her collect sand from the school. After they collected enough sand, Jackie practiced jumping for hours. A few days later when she was done running on the track, and waiting for Mr. ward to drive her home, she walked to the runway. When she got there, she charged, planted, kicked, and flew into the air. She loved the feeling of flying in the air. Mr. Ward ran over to her making her think he was mad for jumping without permission. Instead he told her to jump again and when she did he was surprised. Once he sees how good she is at jumping, he moves her from the track to the runway.
