Dialect- way of speaking. Each region of China has a different dialect. This happened because of the distance between cities.
The early Chinese were so isolated that they believed that China was the only civilization. Called the world Tian Xia or all under heaven. They also believed China was the center of All Under Heaven.

- Huang Di - "Yellow Emperor", ordered the invention of Chinese writing, said to be the inventor of carts, bows, arrows, and houses
- Xilingshi-invented silk cloth, Huang Di's wife
Yu the Great-helped control the floods
Yu the Great began the Xia Dynasty which ruled between 2200 BC and 1766 BC.
